Welcome to Sean’s Outpost

if you’re interested in helping the less fortunate among us, you are in the right place. If you love Bitcoin, so much the better. There’s no watchers here though. Everybody works.  If you really want to start a revolution, don’t pick up a gun.  Pick up a soup ladle.

Welcome to the Outpost. Let’s get to work.

Sean’s Outpost Birthday – 1 Year in Review

Exactly 1 year ago today, Sean’s Outpost began taking bitcoin to help feed the homeless in Escambia County. There is no way we could have imagined how that action would so heavily intwine us with the crypto-currency community. Bitcoin has allowed us to grow in ways we never thought possible. To serve so many more of the unfortunate. And to start actually researching ways of ending homelessness. To the Bitcoin community, we are eternally grateful. Continually humbled by the generosity and support that can instantly be had thru bitcoin from around the world.

We wanted to take the time and highlight what we have accomplished in this year…with bitcoin…

- We have fed over 60,000 meals to the homeless of Escambia County

- We purchased “Satoshi Forest” a 9 acre parcel of Wooded land that is being used as a homeless sanctuary

- We have handed out over 1,000 blankets to the homeless on the streets of Pensacola, predominately when doing so was deemed illegal.

- We spoke out as the most vocal opponents against the blanket ordinance and got it struck down.

- We have assisted 9 people in getting off the streets permanently

- When another homeless outreach (Alfred Washburn Center) burned down in December, we were there the next day ensuring that not 1 meal was missed. We still feed there three times a week.

- We openend <BITHOC> The Bitcoin Homeless Outreach Center. It has now evolved into Outpost Thrift, an 11,000sqft thrift shop and storage facility that assists us in supporting the homeless in our area.

- We were the recipients of the first ever bitcoin transaction from North Korea http://thenextweb.com/asia/2014/01/21/north-korea-may-just-seen-first-bitcoin-transaction-month/

- We were the benefactor of “The ESPN sign guy” giving 11btc to us from his famous stunt http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1ryaq1/heres_the_famous_espn_sign_im_the_bitcoin_sign/

- We were on Al Jazeera https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci6V06-TLLU

- We were on Liberty.me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikAwmHieIps

- Charity Panel at Texas Bitcoin Conference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PMSuA2mpp4

- We were on Fusion.net  http://fusion.net/modern_life/story/seans-outpost-helping-homeless-bitcoin-414337

- Our Founder, Jason King is currently running across the country to raise awareness for Bitcoin and the Homeless Epidemic in America. He is currently 1,350 into a 3,214 journey

- We are in the process of standing up a Sean’s Outpost Charter in Dallas, TX

- In total we raised (approximately) 733 Bitcoins in the last 12 months. 263 from the general public, 470 internally/private from our board of directors.

733 Bitcoins is a lot of money. We get asked all the time if we wish we would have held. Not for a minute. Getting to help build out this wonderful ecosystem has been one of the biggest privileges of our lives.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible. You are all wonderful. Viva la Bitcoin.

Sean’s Outpost: Dogecoin for de doges.

i tried to post this on r/dogecoin but with all the hacking, scamming, and tomfoolery on that sub, it was insinuated that I might be a) not really with Sean’s Outpost and b) scamming c) not reputable. bing a mod is tough sometimes, so I thought I would make it real easy.

Here is the repost on SEANSOUTPOST.COM

“[Bitcoin] allows you to tell your story to the whole world, and the people that agree with you, that want to come to your aid with their treasure, can do just that, in a fraction of a second, from anywhere on the planet,” King said.

“At no time in all of history has that been possible. But, it is now. And it is frictionless. That’s why it has been so powerful for Sean’s Outpost. That’s why it will change everything.”

Thank You Bitcoin.

It might have already happened.

Or, it may be happening over the course of the next few days. The specific time in which it happens isn’t really that important. What is important, regardless of the exact moment it occurs (or occurred), is that Sean’s Outpost has provided over 20,000 meals to the homeless in Northwest Florida.

And those 20,000 meals are because of Bitcoin.

And yes, I mean Bitcoin the currency. We have been very fortunate to benefit from the upswing in price since we started. And that has allowed us to do more good with what we have. But Bitcoin is more than a currency, it’s a protocol too. And even when the price is down, the fact that with Bitcoin we can easily accept donations from anywhere on this planet means more people have supported our efforts. And that means that Sean’s Outpost is out feeding at $70 and at $217.

And that brings me to what I thank most about Bitcoin, the people. Bitcoin is people (Like soylent green!). Wonderful people. People that everyday disprove the myth that without government force no one would give a damn about the down trodden in this world.

No one sticks a gun in anyones face and makes them donate to Sean’s Outpost. And yet, everyday, people do.

And through that voluntary care we can now say we have put 20,000 meals into empty tummies. But it’s not just that. We build houses, pass out blankets and winter coats, buy prescriptions, give rides to the doctor, and just simply talk to people like they are people.

That’s a lot to ask from 1′s and 0′s, but it happens. And it doesn’t stop there.

Bitcoin allowed us to buy Satoshi Forest. And apart from being a 9 acre homeless sanctuary, we aim to grow most of our food supply for the next year there. We will teach permaculture, aquaponics, food foresting, guerrilla gardening, and self sufficiency to the homeless and anyone else who wants to learn.

And none of that would be possible, without Bitcoin.

Thank you Bitcoin. And thanks to everyone who is working so hard to make Bitcoin what it is, and believes so much in what bitcoin is going to be.

┗(°0°)┛TO THE MOON!!!!!!!!! (with sack lunches)

If you are around the Pensacola area, we are doing a trash cleanup and work day out at Satoshi Forest tomorrow. There will be a bunch of us out there starting at 9am. https://www.facebook.com/events/1403620069869656

Keeper of the Forest

On November 1, 2008 Satoshi Nakamoto released his paper “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” onto the world. No one could have had any idea how much of a game changer it would be. To celebrate the 5th Anniversary, the folks here at Sean’s Outpost will be holding a camp out on Satoshi Forest. Nothing fancy. Tents, sleeping bags, music, and a lot of campfire talk about crypto currency.

We would love for you to join us. November 1-3.

Satoshi Forest is located at 1999 Massachusetts, Pensacola, FL. We have a lot of room for tents. But we need to get a general idea of how many people are interested in coming out.

So if you think you might want to come down give me a shout at SeansOutpost@gmail.com

Once we get a handle on the response, we can formalize the plans a little better.

Hope to see you soon.
